Whiteoak Canyon Falls Trail
A 4.6-mile hike with six stunning waterfalls along the way. Best in spring when water flow is strongest. Moderate difficulty with some rocky sections.
Stony Man Trail
Easy 1.6-mile loop to Shenandoah's second-highest peak. Stunning 360-degree views of the valley. Perfect for families and beginners.
Old Rag Mountain
The most popular and challenging hike in Virginia. Famous rock scramble section near the summit. Start early to avoid crowds.
Dark Hollow Falls

Hiking Tips for Shenandoah
Getting There
Most trailheads are accessed via Skyline Drive, which requires a $30 vehicle entrance fee (valid for 7 days). The nearest entrance is Thornton Gap, about 10 minutes from downtown Luray.
Best Times to Hike
Spring (April-May) brings waterfalls at peak flow and wildflowers. Fall (mid-October) offers stunning foliage. Start early in summer to beat heat and crowds, especially on popular trails like Old Rag.
